Carthage Fire Department, 401 W Chestnut, 417/237-7100

The week of March 6th through March 10th is Severe Weather Preparedness Week and our Statewide Tornado Drill. As part of the Weather Preparedness Week, the City of Carthage will be sounding their storm sirens on Tuesday, March 7th at 10:00 AM in conjunction with the Missouri Statewide Tornado Drill. This time and date will coincide with most storm siren testing of communities in Missouri.

We would like to encourage everyone to take this time to practice your severe weather emergency shelter planning. Where would you take shelter if a tornado was approaching right now? The best shelters are in a basement, or in an interior room on the lowest floor of the building away from windows and exterior doors.

Note: The City of Carthage usually tests the storm sirens on the second Wednesday of each month. Due to participating in the Statewide Tornado Drill on Tuesday the 7th, we will not be testing on Wednesday the 8th. Although, if weather prevents us from sounding the sirens on the 7th, we will use the 8th as a makeup date.

Please use this time to practice and perform your emergency plans. Stay safe.
