We are thrilled to introduce and welcome Jen Kirby as the newest member of our City of Carthage team! With a deep passion for travel, an innovative mindset, and a wealth of experience in promoting local destinations, Jen is all set to lead our tourism efforts to new heights.
About Jen:
Jen is a wife and mother who loves spending time playing and creating. A small-town girl who grew up in Golden City. She spent time playing outside, feeding cows with dad, and building her leadership skills. She is a world traveler, having lived in Europe and traveled to 10 countries; an experience leaving her forever changed. After college, she moved to North Carolina and then to Kansas City and worked in various businesses where she honed her leadership and organizational development skills. Moving closer to home in 2019, she has spent the last four years intimately connected to Carthage. Spending time the first few years at Mother Road Coffee shop writing books and building out her business, while meeting and connecting with locals. Most recently, Jen has served the community as the Executive Director of Vision Carthage. She has immersed herself in the mission to beautify and revitalize Carthage. While also, promoting the wonderful things in the community that make it a great place to live, experience and visit whether you are a resident, local or a traveler.
Jen has a Bachelor of Science in Administrative Management with a minor in Marketing from Missouri State University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Baker University. She is a certified, Prosci Change Management Practitioner. She has also authored two e-books on culture in the workplace. In her spare time, she is a free-lance writer and has a weekly column.
She is a leader who is proficient at team building, strategic planning, branding, marketing, administration and event planning. Her journey over the past 18 years has led to a wealth of experience in Small-Business, Corporate, Non-Profit and Entrepreneurial spheres. She is focused on visioning new and creative ways to implement solutions, while being mindful of the heritage that has led us to where we are today. She is also passionate about the culture and atmospheres within the community; with the hope of creating a vibrant place to live and experience.
What's in Store:
As our new Tourism Director, Jen will spearhead initiatives that showcase the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of Carthage. She will collaborate with local businesses, community organizations, and residents to create unforgettable experiences for both visitors and locals alike. With a focus on responsible tourism, Jen aims to strike a balance between economic prosperity and the preservation of our beloved city's integrity.
