In partnership with the Route 66 Subcommittee of Tourism, Vision Carthage is inviting the community to an art reveal from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 15, on the Historic Carthage Square. This series includes 21 large maple leaf cutouts to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Route 66. Local artists submitted designs to the Route 66 Subcommittee for approval before being selected to take part in the project. Now that the leaves are painted and prepped to land in their various tourist destinations across Carthage, a passport booklet will be printed and made available for pick up from the Boot’s Court Visitor’s Center. Tourists will be able to “check-in” at each maple leaf utilizing a local passport book as they hunt for all 21. “This is a fun way for people to explore Carthage,” said Sally Stuart, Co Director of Vision Carthage. “We’re highlighting Carthage history, local landmarks, and places we feel everyone should visit as they travel Route 66. Each leaf is a work of art and worth stopping for!” artCentral will be hosting an art walk on the square from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the leaves will join the display beginning at 6:30 p.m., concluding a private reception being held for artists taking part in the project. The project is funded by the Helen S. Boylan Foundation and Carthage Water & Electric.
