Pool

The City of Carthage has taken an important step toward restoring and improving the Municipal Pool by contracting with Landmark Aquatic to conduct a comprehensive aquatic design and electrical system replacement assessment.

In April 2026, while addressing longstanding water leakage issues at the Municipal Pool, Parks and Recreation staff discovered concerns related to the facility's electrical systems. Following a joint review involving the City of Carthage Parks Department, Public Works Department, CWEP, and private electrical contractors, all parties agreed that the pool should remain closed due to safety concerns.

After extensive in-house evaluations were completed, it was determined that a full assessment of the pool's aquatic and electrical systems was necessary to identify both immediate needs and long-term solutions.

Following discussions with several aquatic management and engineering firms, the City entered into a contract with Landmark Aquatic on July 31, 2026, to perform the assessment and develop repair recommendations.

As part of the project, Landmark Aquatic will provide three potential improvement options for City Council's consideration:

  1. Repair the pool to meet current safety code requirements.

  2. Repair the pool to meet current safety code requirements and address ADA accessibility needs.

  3. Repair the pool to meet current safety code requirements, address ADA accessibility needs, and incorporate additional recreational features.

Once the assessment is complete, City Council will review the recommendations, determine the preferred path forward, and begin evaluating funding options for the project.

The assessment is expected to be completed within 60 to 90 days. The City's goal is to have the Municipal Pool ready for the 2027 swimming season.

The City of Carthage will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.
